writing his book.
When he signed a book contract with Rizzoli
International the decision was immediately made by the
publisher to focus the book primarily on the beautiful
images of Alfred Cheney Johnston. This left very few
pages for text in which to tell the indepth story of
Cheney's life.
Here now is the first in a series of ebooks
giving Alfred Cheney Johnston devotees a more intimate
look into his life's work.
An "Afternoon With Alfred Cheney
Johnston" is a 22 page interview with professional
portraiture photographer Dick Robertson who had the
good fortune to spend an afternoon with Alfred Cheney
Johnston back in the 1960's. This interview is his personal
account of his visit to ACJ's barn studio with four
other photographers who greatly admired the master photographer's
work. All these years later that visit with Cheney is
still etched into Mr. Robertson's memory.
By the time Dick Robertson's visit took
place Cheney was retired, his wife Doris had passed
away, his own health was failing and Cheney was living
an increasingly isolated life.
When he got a call from a small Connecticut
photography club asking if they could come and visit
with him, Cheney was thrilled. He relished these rare
opportunities to reminisce about his work with an audience
eager to hear everything he was willing to share.
