Inpaint: Simple, Easy Digital Photograph Editting Program
Posted By: Ava Land on May 18, 2011 at 3:31 pmToday I went on a search for a photo editing program to remove a watermarks from a digital image. After an hour of studying videos on Youtube on various ways of doing it using Photoshop, I accidentally happened upon a simple little video demonstrating a program called Inpaint.
Honestly it looked too good to be true but after watching the video a couple of times I decided to download the the trial version.
Its a small program so download was fast and so was the installation. (Note: the trial version allows you to work with all features of the program but the Save As feature is deactivated until you purchase a serial key.)
I opened an image file in the simple program interface. I set the width of the paint brush tool – the diameter width adjusts from 5 to 100. I clicked on the first letter in the watermark and drew over it by holding my left mouse key down while dragging over the letter. A red line appeared which I’d made large enough to cover the watermark letter as I drew.
When I was finished covering the entire letter I released the mouse key and a rectangular box with a dotted line appeared. You can leave the box as is or adjust its size accordingly.
Next I clicked on the bright blue arrow button just to the left of the paint brush sizer and a small window opened displaying the progress of the Inpaint tool as it removed the watermark letter from the photograph.
I LOVE this tool. It’s remarkably easy and efficient to use. Also engineered into the program are enlarge and decrease size of image buttons. And if you make a mistake or don’t like a result, you can just click the Undo button.
But don’t think Inpaint is only for removing watermarks. Amazingly, it can remove entire objects from a digital image. It does this by replacing the removed image with colors, tones and textures borrowed from areas of the photograph adjoining the object. Again…watch this video and be amazed.
If you don’t want to invest in Adobe Photoshop or if you already have it but you’ve realized, like I did, that Photoshop requires hundreds of hours to master, then you’ll find Inpaint to be an incredible timesaver.
I’m impressed with this powerful little Inpaint program and have zero qualms about recommending it to our readers.
PS: The only negative I can mention and it’s really not worth mentioning is I found that sometimes not everything you’ve designated for removal is taken out the first time.
When this happens, I simply paint back over the missed parts which are usually only dots or dashes with the paint tool. Then I click on the remove arrow and in seconds they’re completely gone!
